The Business Challenge - International Debt Collection
Our clients Gardners Books had a customer in Shanghai, China with an outstanding balance going back seven months where no contact was made. As their Collection and Credit Agency, we received all the details from Gardners and started the investigation.
Solution
We knew that part of the problem was China’s New Year celebrations and contact would not be made until this period was over.
Amril also had to deal with an eight hour time period and contact via telephone would need to be made in the evening. Some information could be passed by email but due to the language barrier it was essential that we discussed the nature of the disputes by telephone as well.
After extensive investigations we established contact and found that they were disputing the statement of account which they received before moving.
Results
We contacted Gardners once we had all the facts and the issues relating to the outstanding balances, the contact details Gardners had were out of date and the company had moved premises.
Gardners resolved the disputes and payments were made within three weeks.
Amril recommended that Gardners carry on doing business and request their customer update the credit application form with additional details so issues like this would not happen again. Gardners are still working with the company in Shanghai.
